Cost effective prototyping
Client wanted a quick to find out, is it possible to distinquish between a catch and a throw, can it be visually compelling, and with how many LEDs?
Though in production addressable LED strips would be used, to build the prototype it was more cost effective to hand wire LEDs and to use an existing football as the jumping off point. What you see here also involved the effort of balancing out all of the wiring and batteries, so that the ball spins without wobbling, so that the custom programmed light patterns to the client's specifications are easily seen.
The result is what you see above in video and on the right, a testable prototype. On the left, the product as manufactured.
