There are several patented features of the Codee blocks. The ribbed, embossed/debossed detent feature (as noted by the blue highlights in the renderings above) was invented by the author, who is credited in the U.S. patent as having contributed to the overall team design. That feature provided a much more defined "snickety-snick" positional feedback to the end user when twisting and pivoting mating segments.
